Newmains sits on the eastern edge of Wishaw, at the junction of the A71 and the A73. It grew up around the Coltness Iron Works, founded in 1837 by Henry Houldsworth, and remained an industrial village until the works were finally demolished in 2004. Today it's a mainly residential community with shops on Main Street and Manse Road.
